CalCast — Terms of Use

Last updated: 3 August 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Bimsara Withanage Perera, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"), covering your use of the CalCast iPhone app.

By using CalCast you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.

1. What CalCast is

CalCast is a food and calorie journal. You describe what you ate in plain words; the app estimates calories and macronutrients, tracks the result against a daily target, and forecasts where your week and your weight are heading.

2. Not medical advice

CalCast is a general wellness tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical advice.

Its calorie targets, macronutrient splits, BMI figures and weight forecasts are estimates produced by standard formulas — Mifflin-St Jeor for energy expenditure, and approximately 7,700 kcal per kilogram for weight projection. They are not a diagnosis, a treatment, or a personalised nutrition plan.

Do not use CalCast to treat or manage a medical condition. Speak to a doctor or a registered dietitian before making significant dietary changes — particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, have diabetes, heart or kidney disease, or any history of disordered eating.

Calorie and macronutrient figures are approximations. Real foods vary, portions vary, and automated interpretation of what you typed can be wrong. Check any figure that matters to you — every entry can be edited.

If tracking your food begins to feel like it is controlling you rather than helping you, please talk to someone. In the UK, the NHS publishes guidance and support routes for eating disorders.

3. Who can use CalCast

You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to enter a contract where you live. CalCast is not intended for children.

4. Subscriptions and billing

CalCast requires a paid subscription. The plan you choose, its price, and — where a free trial applies — its length and the date of your first charge are all shown before you confirm.

unless you cancel at least 24 hours before that period ends.

cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Apple grants one introductory offer per subscription group per Apple ID, so a trial may not be available if you have used one before.

Cancelling stops future renewals. It does not refund the period you are already in.

will ask you to confirm where its rules require it.

If your subscription lapses, CalCast becomes read-only: everything you have already logged stays visible and exportable, but you cannot add new entries until you subscribe again.

5. Your content

Your diary is yours. It is stored on your device and we claim no ownership of it.

When the app sends text you have typed for interpretation, you grant us only the limited permission needed to process that request and return a result to you. We do not use it to train models, and we do not retain it — see the Privacy Policy.

6. Acceptable use

Please do not:

We may limit or withdraw access to the parsing service where it is being abused.

7. Availability

We aim to keep CalCast working, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Interpretation of your text depends on a network service that may occasionally be unavailable or slow; when that happens the app falls back to on-device estimation, and logging, editing and viewing continue to work.

8. Disclaimers and liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, CalCast is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions you make on the basis of the app's estimates.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any of your statutory rights as a consumer.

If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect.

9. Ending these terms

You may stop using CalCast at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the app. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, in particular section 6.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new date. Continuing to use CalCast after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of United Kingdom, and the courts of United Kingdom have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of your own country.
